PUTTING BACK WHAT WE TAKE
Wood fiber from farm-raised trees is the main raw material in the production of corrugated and paperboard packaging the only true 100 percent recyclable, renewable resource. The forest products industry plants 1.7 million trees a day a greater number than what is harvested.
The paper industry recovers more material from municipal waste than all other industries combined. Recovered paper accounted for 37.1 percent of U.S. paper industry's fiber needs in 2004. The amount of paper recovered for recycling continues to outpace the amount sent to landfills 50 million tons recycled vs. 38 million tons landfilled. The corrugated business in Menasha Packaging uses 15 percent recycled content for linerboard, and 70 percent recycled content for medium. Our folding carton business utilizes 75 percent recycled paperboard.
