Wood fiber from farm raised trees is the main
raw material in the production of corrugated and paperboard packaging -
the only true 100% recyclable, renewable resource. The Forest
Products industry plants 1.7 million trees a day - a greater number than
what is harvested.
The paper industry recovers more material
from municipal waste than all other industries combined. Recovered
paper accounted for 37.1% of U.S. paper industry's fiber needs in
2004. The amount of paper recovered for recycling continues to
outpace the amount sent to landfills ~ 50 million tons recycled vs.
38 million tons landfilled.
MENASHA's corrugated business uses 15%
recycled content for linerboard, and 70% recycled content for
medium. Our folding carton business utilizes 75% recycled
paperboard.
