| Menasha Packaging Dedicates Renewable Energy Project |
Neenah, Wis. (June 14, 2011) - Menasha Corporation celebrated the company's Renewable Energy Project and commitment to sustainability, including the dedication of five wind turbines that are located on its Neenah campus. Menasha Corporation President and CEO, Jim Kotek, and Menasha Packaging President, Mike Waite, addressed a group of employees, shareholders and local dignitaries in a ceremony on June 13, 2011, at the company's headquarters.
In 2010, Menasha Corporation launched its three-tiered approach to environmental sustainability. The company also developed a 20/20 Vision, in which it commits to reducing carbon emissions, water consumption and solid waste by 20 percent by the year 2020, relative to 2010 production levels. Menasha installed five 20-kilowatt wind turbines at its headquarters, which are expected to generate 150,000 kW hours annually, enough to provide electricity for lights, computers and office equipment at its office facility.
At the event, Kotek outlined Menasha's environmental commitment, which focuses on sustainability and the triple-bottom line -- economic value, social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Waite shared the progress the company has made in the past year with the Renewable Energy Project, as well as other significant environmental achievements from Menasha Packaging and ORBIS Corporation.
"Just over a year ago, Menasha Corporation, along with its flagship businesses--Menasha Packaging and ORBIS Corporation--began focusing on a sustainability strategy that would set us apart from competitors, inspire employees to become ambassadors for sustainability in their communities, and make a difference in the places where we live and work," said Kotek. "The Renewable Energy Project, and its dedication today, is demonstration of our commitment to shift our energy consumption to cleaner technologies."
During the program, Jean Romback-Bartels, acting northeast regional director for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, officially recognized four Menasha Packaging facilities into Tier 1 of Wisconsin's Green Tier program. The facilities included the Neenah Plant and Fulfillment Center, and plants in Hartford and Green Lake. Wisconsin's Green Tier program encourages businesses to move beyond regulatory compliance in order to promote superior environmental performance.
In addition, Focus on Energy Senior Energy Advisor Jerry Eaton presented a check for $70,376 to Menasha Corporation for the Renewable Energy Project.
"Today, we believe the economic, social and environmental implications of our work are more important than ever," said Kotek. "Doing the right thing with respect to the environment is work we are honored to take on because we believe so passionately in the outcomes."
