| Menasha's Folding Carton Group Receives Top Safety Award |
Neenah, Wis. (March 25, 2011) -- Menasha Packaging's Folding Carton Group recently received the Chairman's Safety Award presented by the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC). Menasha was recognized for having achieved the best safety record in the industry and logging 477,722 safe hours since the company's last recordable injury in September 2009.
The award is presented to the PPC member with the lowest number of hours worked without an OSHA-recordable incident. Menasha maintained a position on the Chairman's Top Ten list of companies throughout 2010, and completed the year in first place, with nearly 500,000 safe hours.
Menasha strives to maintain employee safety as a top priority throughout the company. Employees are involved in inspections, job safety reviews, written program reviews, behavioral safety observations and writing safe operating procedures. The company recently implemented a hazard reporting system called Safety Snags, in which safety issues are identified, risks are removed, and all snags are tracked in a database to trend for continuous improvement.
"This achievement recognizes the hard work, dedication and remarkable commitment put forth by all of our employees to manage safety," said Mike Waite, president of Menasha Packaging. "Employees understand they have control over safety and are empowered to ensure their job can be performed without risk. This approach has been the foundation of our program and we continue to make adjustments to ensure employees remain involved and engaged."
All safety award winners were recognized at the PPC's 2011 Outlook and Strategies Conference in San Diego, CA March 16-18.
