Menasha Packaging Upgrades Laminator to Enhance Capabilities
Neenah, Wis. (March 17, 2011) - Menasha Packaging, a leading provider of graphic consumer packaging and merchandising solutions, announces several new upgrades to its Asitrade litho-laminator at the company's display plant in Philadelphia. The new equipment increases the capacity of the laminator, produces superior printing surfaces and expands the company's product offerings.

"We are able to provide an overall superior end-product to customers in terms of print and board quality," said Gard Edgarton, general manager of Menasha's Display Group-Philadelphia. "We're already seeing the benefits of quicker change over times and the resulting effect on speed-to-market."

The Asitrade produces flatter, higher-quality board that is an ideal surface for printing. Since the laminator does not use heat to cure the board, it can run preprinted substrates with coatings that would otherwise be damaged in the hot-plate section of a traditional corrugator.

Equipment upgrades include a new single facer, automatic splicers, roll-fed substrate capability, the ability to produce longer sheets, and the addition of c-flute singleface lamination for graphic packaging with improved stacking strength. Edgarton expects the upgrades to reduce the amount of natural gas consumed in production by 27 percent, conserve electricity equivalent to that of 25 refrigerators, and decrease the amount of paper consumed by 3.2 percent.

The company also plans to decommission its 78-inch corrugator that currently runs in tandem with the Asitrade. This will improve plant efficiencies and free up space for future growth.

The Philadelphia plant employs 150 people and produces point-of-purchase displays and high-end graphic packaging.
